Saw ride will scare revellers witless
The world's first horror movie-themed rollercoaster ride will scare the daylights out of visitors to Thorpe Park when it opens next year.
Saw - The Ride, is based on the smash hit horror film franchise, the best-selling in history, and aims to frighten the wits of thrill-seekers brave enough to jump on board.
The ride, a collaboration between Thorpe Park and the franchise producers Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, incorporates three inversions, but the main feature is a nerve-wracking 'beyond vertical' drop of 100ยบ from a height of 100ft, making it the steepest freefall drop in the world.
Themepark ride designer, Candy Holland, creative director for Merlin Entertainments Resorts Theme Parks, is the brainchild behind the white-knuckle ride and believes anyone who has sat through one of the Saw films will know what a terrifying experience they have instore.
She said: "The ride is going to be shocking and intense, both physically and psychologically and is sure to give you nightmares."
Thorpe Park opens for the 2009 season on Saturday March 14, but previews of the new ride can be seen at www.sawtheride.com
