The Princess Alice Hospice Therapy Team members are leading by example; they have been building up their fitness levels and getting in some additional training following their registration for the very first, Princess Alice Hospice MIDNIGHT WALK on Saturday 6 September.

The therapy team, led by their manager Kathy Birch has signed up for the 13.1-mile challenge, Kathy has also recruited some of her friends and together they go by the name "Team G N O". They are a group of friends planning a fun "Girls Night Out" whilst at the same time raising vital funds for their local Hospice.

Kathy Birch, Physiotherapist, Therapy Manager said

"Exercise and keeping fit is beneficial for everyone, the team thought that by taking part in the walk we could lead by example and encourage our patients to complete their exercises. The specialist therapy team is essential to the programme of care provided by the Hospice. We work with patients in the specially built therapy room at the Hospice and out in the community with patients' in their homes'. The team provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, the team's aim is to help maintain every patient's independence within the limits of their condition".

It is not just women who can have a great night out; the walk is also open to men. With children over 14 years of age allowed to participate, it could be a night of fun for all the family. It will be a great opportunity for everyone to get in shape whilst also raising money for his or her local Hospice. The Hospice is calling for 500 participants to join them, the event will start at midnight and see the walkers strolling along the streets of Richmond, Twickenham and Kew, as the sun dawns on what we hope will be a warm Sunday morning.

The Midnight Walk will start and end at Pools in the Park, Richmond and there will be a warm up session, a goody bag and a well-deserved breakfast at the end of the walk for all participants. Pools in the Park, Richmond are generously donating one free swim for every participant; this should help to soothe any aching bodies.

Entry to the walk is £15, there is no minimum sponsorship required, although the community fundraising team hope that everyone will try his or her best to raise as much money as they possibly can for the Hospice. Walkers will need to register before the event; the closing date for registrations is Friday 23 August (subject to the number of entries received prior to this date). An adult must accompany anyone taking part who, is between 14 and 17 years of age.

Lisa Flanagan, Community and Event Fundraiser said

"The fundraising team is very excited that the therapy team has signed up to the challenge of the Midnight Walk. We have had a great response and many people have signed up, we still have plenty of spaces left and we look forward to even more members of the community joining us on what will be a fun night of fundraising and camaraderie".
