Calling Men, Women and Children for Midnight Walk Fun!

Posted by Princess Alice on Jul 30, 08 04:14 PM in Charity/voluntary

Midnight Walk 1.jpgMidnight walks are becoming synonymous with fundraising at Hospices and normally they are women only events.

The Princess Alice Hospice is always looking to do something different and that is why the first Princess Alice Hospice Midnight Walk will be open to men, women and children over 14 years of age.

The Princess Alice Hospice Midnight Walk will be a great opportunity for everyone to get in shape whilst also raising money for his or her local Hospice. The Hospice is calling for 500 participants to join them on Saturday 6 September; the event will start at midnight and see the walkers strolling along the streets of Kew, Twickenham and Richmond, as the sun dawns on what we hope will be a warm Sunday morning.

The Princess Alice Hospice provides care and support across a huge community, whilst it is based in Esher, their community based Princess Alice Nurses care for patients in Richmond, Twickenham, Barnes, Mortlake, Kingston upon Thames, Sheen, Putney and Teddington to name but a few.

Nicholas Ratsey, Chief Executive, Princess Alice Hospice said

"Our first Midnight Walk is an excellent way of drawing attention to the fact that the Princess Alice Hospice is more than just the building in Esher, it will provide us with an opportunity to engage with another community who we provide care and support to. It costs £6.8 million per year to provide all of our services to patients in our large catchment area, which covers parts of Surrey, Middlesex and South West London. The services on the In-Patient Ward, Day Hospice and also within the community at patients' homes are provided completely free of charge."

The Midnight Walk will start and end at Pools in the Park, Richmond and there will be a warm up session, a goody bag and a well-deserved breakfast at the end of the walk for all participants. Pools in the Park, Richmond are generously donating one free swim for every participant; this should help to soothe any aching bodies.

Entry to the walk is £15, there is no minimum sponsorship required, although the community fundraising team hope that everyone will try his or her best to raise as much money as they possibly can for the Hospice. Walkers will need to register before the event; the closing date for registrations is Friday 8 August (subject to the number of entries received prior to this date). An adult must accompany anyone taking part who, is between 14 and 17 years of age.

Lisa Flanagan, Community and Event Fundraiser said

"Midnight Walks are proving to be excellent fundraising events and also great ways of raising the profiles of charities, the visual presence of hundreds of supporters taking to the streets in specially designed t-shirts and glow sticks really creates a big impact. I am sure that with some great support from the community we will be able to raise a substantial amount of money".
