Boarding school reveals expansion plan

A Thorpe boarding school has revealed ambitious plans to increase pupil numbers and extend their buildings.

TASIS, the American School in Switzerland, in Thorpe, want to build a new two storey upper school and a single storey business office - an increase in floorspace of 840 square metres at the Coldharbour Lane campus. They plan to demolish 18 existing buildings on the campus to make room for the new facilites.

They also want to increase pupil numbers from 725 - 800, which they say will be day pupils from the area, rather than boarders.

The scheme will be voted on by councillors at the planning committee meeting of August 6, but officers have already recommended it be granted permission.
